Weekend Trip to Berlin

We went exploring this past weekend to Berlin. Overall, we had a great time, despite some dreary, rainy weather. Lots of time was spent looking at the subway map to see if we were heading in the right direction:) One of the main reasons we went was to stop at the Israeli embassy to get some paperwork taken care of for our permanent residency application in Canada (which is pending). That part went great! The hostel we stayed at was maybe a little less than great; we were thankful to be back home in our nice, clean house, with a soft place to sit. Below are some of the pictures we took.

Here the kids are on the U-Bahn (the subway, but not all underground), and we were also on the S-Bahn a lot - the train that circles around the city. The kids really thought this was fun, and we did lots of traveling around this way. We saw many interesting people!

One of our days we visited a huge Teknikmuseum (technology museum). It was really fun! One part of it was a restored historical beer brewery, which I (Dan) was jealous of. There were lots of trains, airplanes, and things like that as well.

At the technology museum we spotted this banner made specially for Jody Louise and Sophia Louise!

Micah and Gabe REALLY wanted a picture of a police (Polizei) car. Here it is.

Probably the most famous landmark of Berlin: the Brandenburger Tor (Brandenburg Gate). The statue was stolen by Napolean and later returned.

This is inside the other museum we visited, and archeological museum called the Pergamon. It had some huge, amazing displays, like this gate from the Temple of Marduk in Babylon. We have been reading the book of Daniel since we got back home with this in mind. There was also an incredible display of a HUGE temple platform from the city of Pergamon in Asia Minor.

On the drive back home we stopped by a little town called Lutherstadt ("Luther city") Wittenburg, which was the home base of Martin Luther for most of his ministry. Here are the kids in the big church, standing by Luther's grave.

Back home again, where we were met by a package from Ron and Beth's family - thanks guys!

We were just talking about Luther on Sunday night in church with Dr Payton! Sooo cool that you got to go to his "home".
I love love love the Louise banner :). And Dan, I'm pretty sure Mike's jealous of the giant beer brewery looks neat!
