Mosel River

Here are some more of the pictures around the Mosel River. It was quite a day full!

Burg Eltz - a castle that seemed like it was in the middle of a forest.  We had a very steep hike to and from the castle to the parking lot.

Inside the main castle courtyard. The castle is still owned privately by the descendants of the knight families who built the place in the 1000's.

Randy is ready for action... seriously.

Gabe is contemplating a climb.

A cool gargoyle water spout.

This was a fun little lunch stop. It was fast food, German style ("Imbiss" basically means a take-out food place). You'll never guess what was on the menu... brats and french fries!

Micah and Dan in one of the many vineyards lining the hills on both sides of the valley.

A park pit-stop in one of the villages we stopped in. This beat out the castle, hands down.

Gabe in mid-spin.

We had a fun time seeing what the cemeteries were like here. Reminiscent of North America, but we thought these were better!
The city square at Bernkastel-Kues

A neat mailbox there (Micah took this picture).

The vineyards again.

Dad and Kris walking the bridge at Bernkastel-Kues (more pictures on the bridge below...)

Great photos yet again. It must be wonderful to be surrounded by so much history. Canada is so young in comparison! I've never been to Germany, but in Ireland I liked driving around and spotting a lot of ruins, usually in the middle of a sheep field :)
